Each year Agrium’s corporate office and production facilities run their United Way campaigns in their own ways, with amazing – and continually improving – results.
In 2012, employee-led campaigns across North America brought in more than U.S.$995,000 – a figure which ballooned to an impressive U.S.$1.99 million with the addition of Agrium’s matching corporate donation.
Last year’s employee-raised total is 7.6 per cent higher than 2011’s U.S.$925,000 total, and more than a five-fold increase since 2003’s U.S.$189,000.
In addition to setting another fundraising record, this was a notable United Way year for Agrium because one of the Company’s senior executives as well as a member of its Board of Directors were co-chairs of the 2012 United Way Calgary United Way campaign. Leslie O’Donoghue, our Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy & Chief Risk Officer, served with Russ Girling, Agrium Board Member and President & CEO of TransCanada. Under their leadership, the campaign brought in a record-setting Cdn$55.2 million for Calgary charities.
United Way is a great cause for Agrium to support for a number of reasons. Much of the fundraising is done by volunteers, so the percentage of its revenues that go to operations is lower than many North American charity groups. Also, United Way contributions benefit a variety of worthy causes, including programs pertaining to health & wellness, children & youth, community recreation, poverty and immigrants, to name a few.
